Adsense Guide 2009: Some Adsense Tips and Tricks

A lot has changed since Adsense was first introduced and there is no doubt in my mind that some of the adsense tips on the internet are outdated which is why I decided to make this quick post. Briefly, here are some of the things you should be considering when using Adsense:

1. Your Use of Adsense

By far the most important change in Adsense has been the change in mindset of Adsense users. Most of the major Adsense users I know do not build sites made for Adsense. What this means is that they do not pick a niche for the sole purpose of making money from Adsense. There are many reasons for this and the most important one is that making sites for Adsense is risky as it is usually your only method of monetisation.

2. Adsense is at the bottom of monetisation methods

Adsense is usually the lowest paying source of monetisation you could use on your site. I tested this a number of times and when compared to cpa or cps programs, Adsense usually comes out on the bottom. If you have good content, Adsense should generally not be your primary method of monetisation. *this will be explained in more detail soon*

3. Testing Adsense Placements and Colours
Continually test adsense placements using colours and images to achieve the highest ctrs. Depending on how your site is structured, you can set seperate channels for each ad block for a more thorough test.

4. Filtering Irrelevant Ads

Use the competitive filter to drop ads that do not match the content of your site. Adsense is great at finding advertisers but sometimes they get it wrong. Removing advertisers that do not match the angle of your content will improve your CTR. An example of this is having a site about selling timeshares but Adsense is showing ads on buying timeshares.

I will be continuing to post more tips along with expanding on the points already given using step-by-step guides so stay tuned.
